Sitges was one of the favourite destinations on the XIX century for the ones that wanted to enjoy a place next to the sea. Artists like Santiago Rusiñol, just to mention that Picasso portrayed him at least twenty-one times. Rusiñol founded the museum and workshop known as Cau Ferrat. Santiago Rusiñol was an artist and a writer whom is considered to have started the movement called Modernisme in Catalunya, he invited lots of artists to Sitges giving the town a bohemian atmosphere. Parallel to this movement of artists  settled he indianos (locals that emigrated to South America to make business) when they returned as rich men they built up beautiful houses that give a special character to this little town by the sea. Nowadays Sitges celebrates events like the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival one of the most important in Europe. The visit to Sitges can be combined with a visit to the cavas of the Penedés region where the aromas and tastes of family run wineries can be experienced; this family run wineries produced wine following traditional and sustainable technichs.
